Bring the Right Attitude. Learn the Trade. Build Your Future.
Ambient Recruiting is partnering with a progressive Northern Michigan manufacturer in Harbor Springs to hire a Shop Hand Helper.
While previous welding, metal fabrication, or shop experience is highly valued, our client is also willing to invest in the right person. We're looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy, coachable, mechanically inclined, and genuinely interested in learning and growing with the company.
This is more than an opportunity to fill a shop position. The company offers an environment where the right person can learn from experienced team members, cross-train in different areas, develop valuable welding and fabrication skills, and take on greater responsibility as their abilities grow.
If you're good with your hands, take pride in your work, and want an opportunity where work ethic and attitude matter just as much as what's already on your résumé, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Shop Hand Helper, you'll support experienced team members throughout the fabrication and manufacturing process. Depending on your current skills and training, you'll:
- Assist welders and fabricators with day-to-day shop projects
- Help fabricate parts used in the assembly and manufacture of industrial equipment
- Measure, prepare, cut, grind, sand, and finish metal components
- Operate hand and power tools safely
- Use grinders, sanders, cut-off saws, and other common shop equipment
- Assist with fitting and assembling fabricated components
- Learn to read and interpret layout drawings, assembly drawings, and job specifications
- Prepare materials and components for welding and assembly
- Assist with MIG and TIG welding projects based on experience and ability
- Work with stainless steel and other fabrication materials
- Learn additional welding and metal fabrication techniques
- Help maintain tools, equipment, materials, and shop supplies
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Work alongside experienced welders, fabricators, and other shop team members
- Cross-train in different areas of production and manufacturing
- Take on additional responsibilities as your skills and knowledge develop

- Able to follow instructions and established procedures
- Detail-oriented and committed to quality
- Comfortable working in an active shop environment
- Able to work independently once trained
- Willing to jump in and help the team where needed
- Respectful and able to work well with different personalities
- Interested in developing new skills and taking on greater responsibility
- Looking for an opportunity to grow rather than simply another job

Real Talk
We're prioritizing welding and metal fabrication experience, but we're not necessarily looking for someone who already knows everything.
The right person might be an experienced fabricator—or someone earlier in their career who has mechanical ability, knows their way around tools, and is ready to learn.
What will matter every day is whether you show up, do what you say you're going to do, take direction, ask questions, learn from mistakes, treat your coworkers with respect, and take pride in your work.
This is an active shop environment. You'll get dirty, work with metal and power tools, assist wherever the team needs you, and gradually take on more advanced responsibilities as you demonstrate your abilities.
For someone who is dependable, humble enough to learn, and motivated to develop a skilled trade, there is real room to grow here.
