Ambient Recruiting is partnering with a leading Northern Michigan manufacturer to hire an experienced Quality Technician. In this role, you'll play an important part in maintaining product quality throughout the injection molding process while supporting production, engineering, tooling, and maintenance teams.
You'll perform inspections, audits, precision measurements, quality documentation, and data analysis while helping identify and resolve quality concerns. What You'll Be Doing
As a Quality Technician, you'll:
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to verify product conformity
- Inspect products using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and other precision measuring equipment
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerances
- Complete and maintain inspection records, audit documentation, and quality reports
- Perform product, process, and quality system audits
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material
- Initiate containment activities when quality concerns are identified
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Communicate quality concerns to Production and recommend process improvements
- Assist with customer complaint investigations and internal quality investigations
- Support internal and external ISO audits
- Collect, analyze, and report quality data
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with training and mentoring production employees on quality standards and inspection techniques
- Work collaboratively with Production, Tooling, Engineering, and Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Participate on cross-functional teams and support special projects as assigned
Successful candidates typically have:
- High school diploma or GED
- 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- 3+ years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field
- Previous injection molding manufacturing experience
- Experience in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Basic statistical analysis experience
- Knowledge of injection molding processes and common molding defects
- Experience with nonconforming material control and containment processes

This is a hands-on quality position in a manufacturing environment. You'll spend significant time on your feet, with the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, potentially up to 10 hours. The role requires frequent bending, stooping, and reaching, as well as occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
You'll need to work with precision measuring equipment, identify small product defects, distinguish colors, interpret technical drawings, and maintain accurate documentation. Occasional overtime may be required to support production demands. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, technical aptitude, and the ability to communicate effectively when quality issues arise.
